BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Another round of snow is expected to hit southern Idaho Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The overnight low temperatures ranged from -1 in Meridian to -14 in Nampa, which is complicating road treatment plans for ACHD.
ACHD began 24 hour operations over the weekend when the last snow storm left most of the Treasure Valley with nearly eight plus inches of fresh snow. Crews worked around the clock to clear priority 1 and 2 roadways, the major thoroughfares and arteries with an emphasis on schools, hospitals, and fire stations.
ACHD tells CBS2 that with temperatures being as cold as they are currently, normal pre-treatment options such as salt or magnesium chloride, won't work. Snow removal operations shifted late yesterday into residential areas, but a spokeswoman for ACHD tells us that crews will likely be shifted back to main roads and priority 1 areas as soon as the snow begins to fall again tonight.
With the usual pre-treatment options out, crews have begun applying sand in some areas, primarily at intersections and hills where extra traction is needed for vehicles. Plan plenty of extra time for Wednesday mornings commute.
